LAKE Rice: Lagos reassures consumers on production quality, price

Lagos State Government has declared that it will do everything possible to ensure consistency in the quality of its Lake (Lagos-Kebbi) Rice product, adding that the product product will remain affordable for interested Nigerians in the foreseeable future.

Mr. Oluwatoyin Suarau, Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, who disclosed this recently, explained that every bag of Lake Rice passes through several stages of quality analysis assessment before being brought to the market for sale.

“Our Lake Rice is of good quality. The major difference between Lake Rice and imported rice is that the imported has a minimum storage of five to six years storage life span, but Lake Rice is fresh.”

Suarau, disclosed that hundreds of trailers load of LAKE Rice are awaiting distribution to designated sales centres as part of the effort to ensure availability of the product to citizens and attain food sufficiency.

“Food production and self-sufficiency have been given priority attention at State’s policy and strategic levels, this is aimed at sustaining Lagos because our state is the largest consumer of food commodity in Nigeria”, he averred.

Suarau explained that the governor’s directive on the non-stop sale of the product is part of the strategy aimed at increasing access to the product and ensure effective distribution of the rice across the State.

He disclosed that a 32 metric tonne per hour rice milling plant which would become operational next year had been acquired by the state government to ensure that Lagos meets up with the demand for Lake Rice.


Suarau, while noting that the price of the product has not changed, said logistics have been put in place to ensure a hassle-free purchase of the product in approved sales centres.

7 FEPSAN members to produce 1m tonnes under Presidential Fertiliser Initiative

Seven active blending companies within the Fertiliser Producers and Suppliers Association of Nigeria (FEPSAN) have been revived and are among the 1st of five batches that would produce 1 million tonnes of fertiliser under the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative, Thomas Etuh, President of FEPSAN has said. Saudi investors identify Kwara as host for proposed Agric City
