Nasarawa partners Chinese firm on fertiliser production

In order to boost agricultural produce and foster better business ties with China, the Nasarawa State Government has entered into a partnership agreement with Beidou Automatic Equipment Company of China by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the procurement of four fertiliser blending plants.

Umaru Al-Makura, Governor of Nasarawa State, who signed on behalf of the state government at the Government House in Lafia earlier in the week, said the agreement for the supply of the plants was reached during a visit by members of the Nigeria Governors Forum to China last month.

Al-Makura, a member of the forum and part of the delegation that embarked on the trip to China, said the state government decided to procure the fertiliser blending plants because each equipment is capable of producing 40 tonnes of fertiliser per hour, adding that the plants would enable the farmers to gain access to quality fertilisers at a subsidised rate.

The governor explained that the machines are expected to produce 20 tonnes for the use of farmers in the state every day while excess production will be sold to generate revenue for the state. He said each of the three senatorial zones in the state will receive a fertilizer plant in order to ensure easy access to the fertilizer.

Jin Chuang, Chairman of Beidou Automatic Equipment Company, assured Nassarawa of the company’s readiness to assist farmers in order to produce not just crop but also improve production. He disclosed Beidou will also work with the state university on the establishment of an agricultural institute in the state.
