Edo partners BoI to empower widows with training in poultry production

The Edo State Government in partnership with the Bank of Industry and Bank of Investment Trust Company provided training on poultry production for 500 widows in the state yesterday in the Benin, the state capital.

The one-day training exercise, organised to empower the widows so that they could take care of their families and reduce poverty was part of Mrs Besty Obaseki’s, wife of Edo Governor, agriculture initiative for women in the state.

Addressing the trainees, Mrs. Obaseki said the training was part of the state government’s efforts to create employment through agriculture.  “This programme is a pilot scheme that will be test run in Benin and would be implemented forthwith across the state,” she said.

She said each participant in the training programme will be given 40 birds comprising 20 broilers and 20 layers and feeds to start their individual poultry production businesses.
